Winn-Dixie Recalling Some Alfalfa Sprouts

Winn-Dixie is recalling some LEASA Living alfalfa sprouts because they may have potentially been exposed to salmonella.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Winn-Dixie Inc. which is being purchased by Bi-Lo LLC in a deal valued at $560 million, said Thursday that it has not received any reports of illness associated with the sprouts.

The sprouts are being removed from all its stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. They were sold from Jan. 7 through Wednesday and have expiration dates between Feb. 1 and March 15.
