Alfalfa Studio: Graphic Design, Branding, Web Design and Visual ...

This morning, my friend Miriam Castillo sent me a link to this artist’s website. The only thing she said was “mira ví esto y pensé en tí, te va a gustar” (look I saw this and I thought of you, you will like it). I guess Miriam knows me. I loved it, I immediately wanted to share it. I wondered why I never heard of Andrew Huang before?

Andrew is a commercial and music video director. His site tells us that he started his career when his dark sci-fi short film Doll Face went viral in YouTube. Huang’s work has beauty, imagination and craftsmanship. Doll Face’s look reminds me of Bjork’s iconic music video All Is Full of Love directed by Chris Cunningham, except Doll Face is darker, edgier and more sinister (Sorry Bjork).

The other piece worth looking is called Solipsist, his newest one. In this film, I found aesthetics elements from the exquisite surrealism of Eiko Ishioka, the dreamy underwater photography of Leni Riefenstahl, the otherworldly Soundsuits of Nick Cave and a dash of a Michael Mann’s Hollywood blockbuster film. Solipsist can be disturbing at times, but it’s almost impossible to stop watching it.

His upcoming project titled Facial Alphabetics (working title) will show a series of video portraits designed around a “typographic” approach to modifying the human face. We’ll be on the lookout.

More of Andrew’s films can be seen in his YouTube channel.
