Alfalfa – A Medicine Consisting In Its Own Nature

(This is Flashback #6 for Mary’s Blog Anniversary Week. Originally posted on 7/04/2011 – Enjoy!)

The Arabs called Alfalfa the father of all foods. It is a deeply rooted legume and has incalculable amounts of rare trace elements not found in cultivated garden foods. Its protein amount is exceptionally high – comparable to meats and nuts. Vitamin U was discovered in Alfalfa by Dr. G. Chaney, a renowned food scientist from Stanford University. This is a remarkable healing agent and preventive of peptic ulcers. There are eight essential enzymes that dissolve, oxidize and convert starches, sugars, proteins and fats. All this within one plant! Mother Nature had it all figured out for us from the very beginning!

Alfalfa seems to lower total cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoproteins, (LDL) and very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) while not significantly lowering the good HDL – ultimately reducing the total cholesterol/HDL ratios, which happens to be one of the major predictors of cardiovascular risk! That’s encouraging! Also, because of its phytoestrogens, one of the many uses of alfalfa appears to be in the treatment of hormonal imbalances. Alfalfa has been shown to help Hypoestrogen, Menopause, Hot Flashes, Hyperestrogen, Fibrocystic Breasts, PMS, and Breast Cancer! That’s 7 YEAHS right there! And to think some people don’t believe in the healing power of foods! What a shame!

In Chile, alfalfa has become known as Chilean Clover. There, people pick the sprays of the plant and lay them around the house to drive away fleas! Ha! How are things like this discovered? Simply amazing!

Have some alfalfa tea today! Infuse 1 tablespoon of leaves in a pint of water. This serves two. For variation add some mint leaves! RELAX, enjoy and feel healthier with each sip!

Here’s to good health and all that Mother Nature has given us to ensure that we do stay healthy! So start learning and try Her goodness’s out! You’ll reap the benefits and be glad you gave it a shot!

Love,

Mary
