David Bowie 'Hunky Dory'
There are three things that British graphic designer David Marsh must love: Pantone swatches, Adobe Illustrator and album cover art. In fact, he just completed a series of artworks using adobe illustrator to recreate iconic album cover designs from the 1960s to the present. The end result is some kind of “digital impressionism.” The sum of all swatches reveals an album cover image.
Because they are part of popular culture, it’s easy to recognize the famous covers. Among them the 1973 Pink Floyd’s Dark side of the moon or the famous black and white photograph of Patti Smith by Robert Mapplethorpe for the classic 1975 album Horses. Another stand out is the Marlene Dietrich influenced cover of Hunky Dory by English singer-songwriter David Bowie. Indeed, a fun experiment using current tools.
A young and accomplished designer, David graduated from the Lincoln School of Art & Design. He works on both mediums: digital and traditional print. Check out his portfolio and see for yourself.
