Play Clan's colorful installation
Last week we talked about the talks. The other highlights at the IDF, which we saved for today, were the interesting installations located in different areas at the venue. From Anish Kapoor’s art waste to Manish Arora‘s costumes, hallways and the patio came alive with pieces of art.
Perhaps the one we spent most time with was Artefacting’s Beehive installation. This installation was re-appropriated from a previous piece by Anish Kapoor “Shooting into the Corner”. Empty wax canisters from the artpiece were sent to Dharavi aka Mumbai’s Recycling Center for recycling.
On entering the enclosure made of large empty wax canisters, sounds and buzz from “Asia’s Largest Slum”, Dharavi could be heard. Quite fascinating to hear the sounds from the life of a piece. Read more on Beehive here.
Michelle and I turned it into a dining room of our own, only because it was a bit cold to eat out in the open and we couldn’t find a place to sit. Little did we expect to become part of the installation when other attendees included us in their photos.

The other piece that caught our eyes, and ears, was the Absolut India installation by SapientNitro. Again, use of sound to express the sentiments of Bollywood (can’t miss that one), Heritage, Bazaar, amongst others.

On the opposite side, Bharti Kher‘s Absolut Kher piece was very elaborate in that it had thousands of round and serpent shaped ‘bindis’ stuck on a mirror. Effervescence, fireworks, splashes…what else do you see in it?

A playful installation by Play Clan lined the hallway, with some classic Indian handmade toys. Manish Arora’s costumes and intricate mosaics by SICIS were also beautifully presented in the area.
Oh, and guess who else was there the whole time packing in this experience? Our very own Maria Felix tote bag! After all, these totes are made for traveling, and that’s just what they’ll do.
