Alfalfa Studio: Graphic Design, Branding, Web Design and Visual ...

“…But why these people and not others? Everything seem to happen as if, on some road that led nowhere in particular, you met successive groups of travelers, themselves ignorant of their destination and encountered for only one brief moment. Others, in contrast, stayed with you a bit of the way, only to disappear without explanation at the next turn, fading out like ghosts. It was hard to understand how these people impressed themselves on your mind, occupied your imagination, and sometimes even consumed your heart, before they revealed themselves for what they were: phantoms. For their part, perhaps they thought the same of you, assuming they were able to think anything. All that seems to belong to the domain of phantasmagoria and dreams.”

Today I share a heartwarming excerpt I found in one of my favorite books. The story called An Obscure Man, is one of the three short stories in Two Lives and a Dream by the great Belgium writer Marguerite Yourcenar. Other story, in the same book, which deeply moved me is called A Lovely Morning. It is the story of a young innocent boy with a burning desire to explore the world. It talks about a morning, early in your life, when you realize you need to leave the comfort of the things you are used to in order to move to another place, the unknown. The exact moment when, for a second, you look at the familiar world behind you, then you look at the untraveled world ahead of you, at this crossroads you look for clues —inside and outside of you— to tell you what to do. All you see around is ‘a lovely morning,’ then you know you have to move forward, you have to find your place. You do not have an idea what the new place will be like, but nevertheless, you know you have to go. There is a place in the world reserved for you, only for you.

If you are looking for a good read, check out Two Lives and a Dream perhaps you will also find a quote that will move you.
